Grandmothers are treasures in the kitchen, hiding decades of experience and love for cooking. In this blog post, we delve deep into the culinary treasures of grandmas and share two delicious recipes that have stood the test of time, bringing with them traditions and culinary delights.

Karelian Pasties: Tradition in the Dough and Rice

Karelian pasties are a traditional delicacy passed down from generation to generation. The dough contains a carefully cherished recipe that combines the best of rye and wheat. The filling, a rice-milk mixture, is a testament to how simple ingredients can create a flavor experience that carries the imprint of tradition.

  1. Karelian Pasties

Dough:

3 dl water
1 tsp salt
6 dl rye flour
3 dl wheat flour
150 g butter or margarine
Filling:

2 dl rice
4 dl milk
1 tsp salt
Butter for brushing
Instructions:

Cook rice in salted milk until the rice is tender and the liquid is absorbed.
Mix rye and wheat flour together. Add salt and melted butter.
Add water and mix the dough until smooth. Let the dough rest in the refrigerator for a moment.
Divide the dough into small balls and roll them into thin discs.
Spoon the rice filling into the center of the dough discs and fold the edges together.
Brush the pasties with melted butter.
Bake at 225 degrees Celsius for about 20 minutes until the pasties have a beautiful color.
